The Website Marketing Bible - one of the best Internet marketing strategy e-books

all my life and understanding how hard it is to build a brand, I have probably read every other popular book on the subject. Some are good and most are excellent, as each one helps give you ideas on setting the stage for your brand marketing objectives. Branding on the Internet is somewhat new as before 1995 there was little if any Internet to speak of. One book I can recommend is:

"11 immutable laws of Internet branding" by Laura Ries.

This was a goods book. Where as I agree with MANY of the rules of thumb, I disagree completely with nearly all of the examples supporting their assertions. Most of the purported examples to prove their theories are outdated and out of context. I do not recommend this book to anyone and having personally called the author, I was a little concerned with the lack of business history and knowledge that went into the work. Too bad, it is a good subject. In my companies we are following most all of the basic marketing branding rules they consider relevant, and probably better than nearly all of the other companies listed or mentioned.

Internet Brand Marketing is important, but only a mere component of the whole. Sure it is important and you should pay attention to your strategy, but the customer will always vote with their dollar, so realize when reading

such books that these people who write them actually are writing them to puff up clients they have and trying to sell marketing strategy services. They made errors in their assumptions of Microsoft, the reason for the Boston Market failure, their degree of confidence in Amazon.com, their domain name picking theories. I could nearly crush them in a debate on almost every single example they used to prove a point, as they cite case laws and business histories. On the points themselves they are plus or minus average in their correctness, and I would only challenge a few points, if any and only in certain contexts or situations. All in all however

the book should be read with a grain of salt but definitely read by anyone who is in charge of brand marketing on the Internet, which by now should be every CEO in the country.

Ultralight Backpacking Techniques

Ultralight backpackers want to give up weight, not comfort. Sleeping pads are pretty much a necessity for backpacking comfort, but who wants to carry those monstrous old inflatables down the trail? Try some of these lightweight options instead.

You can make four-ounce sleeping pads - then sometimes carry two of them. Start with the plain blue closed-cell foam pads available from any backpacking supplier. These are made larger than necessary, usually 24 by 72 inches. You can just cut them down to a four-ounce size.

It's important that it reaches from your shoulders to your hips, so cut it to that length. Cut the width a little at a time, testing for comfort as you go. You want the pad as small as you can make it, while still big enough to insulate your torso from the ground. Your head can be on a pillow of spare clothes, and your legs on your empty pack to insulate them.

Sleeping Pads For Ultralight Fanatics

If you want it really light, cut pieces out of the pad. Half-inch holes in the pad don't seem to make it less comfortable. Cut out a hundred little pieces of foam, and you get to save an ounce and join the ranks of the fanatical ultralight backpackers.

To be comfortable with a thin pad, or none at all, try sleeping where the ground is soft. You can also pile up leaves or dry grass to sleep on. Please do this only where it won't harm the enviroment, and scatter the leaves in the morning so they won't kill the vegetation they're on. With fifteen minutes of work each night collecting materials, you can leave the sleeping pad home and be more comfortable. A thick pile of dried grass - now that's a nice camping mattress.

More Comfortable Sleeping Pads

Do you need more cushioning? Inflatable sleeping pads are no longer out of the question for lightweight backpacking. REI's Big Agnes Air Core Pad is a 3/4 length pad that weighs just 16 ounces and is an incredible 2 1/2" thick! I haven't tried this one yet, so if you've slept with Big Agnes, let me know how she is.

There are also several self-inflating sleeping pads that are reasonably light. My old Thermarest is actually only 21 ounces, but both Thermarest and others now have self-inflating sleeping pads that are under a pound. Now that's lightweight backpacking comfort!

The primary reason that a toddler bites another child or their parents is because of frustration. The toddler is now aware of his/her needs but frequently lacks the ability to successfully communicate those needs. Another reason that toddlers bite is when they are stressed. New situations, new environments, new people or playmates can all stress a toddler and biting maybe their reaction to it. Being hungry or tired also add to the toddler's stress.

If a toddler bites out of frustration it is important to start teaching them the exact words they need to use in order to express their wants. Simple phrases like, "I want..." work best. If a toddler bites out of stress the best medicine is preventative medicine. Try to avoid putting the child in positions where he/she will likely to become stressed, a stress that may result in biting.

When your toddler bites it is important that you respond immediately and appropriately. You need to let the toddler know that biting is not acceptable social behavior and that it needs to stop. Teaching the toddler appropriate means to handle stress and frustration are the best tools to handle toddlers and biting.

If you don't enjoy the life you've got because you think you don't look good in shorts or you can't bring yourself to wear a bathing suit, you're doing nothing more than wasting your life for nothing. Maybe you don't look like a bathing beauty but who does? I've heard so many people tell me that they would give anything to be at a weight they once were, but when questioned they almost always say, "Now that I think about it, I thought I was fat back then too," but guess what? They weren't. Those same people are sometimes shocked to see photos of themselves as a teenager or young adult; "Why I wasn't fat at all," they'll say.

Where do these fears originate except within our minds, and that makes me wonder - is this another way of the brain to try to keep us from taking the steps necessary to affect change? Remember, your brain will do what it can to keep things the way they are, at least at first, so crazy notions about the future may be clouding your judgment.

It's unlikely you'll hear someone on their death bed say, "If only I'd spent more hours at the job," but more likely they'll say, "I wish I'd spent more time with my family." Go ahead and spend that time now, doing what you love, being with people you enjoy. If you like being outdoors, be outdoors. Do you love the water but you haven't been in a pool for 20 years because you think you look awful in a swimming suit? Who cares? Go swimming, today, tomorrow, or next week. Just go.

Think about this: Sally cannot stand to go out because she doesn't want anyone to see her in a size 22 dress. She's embarrassed and too self consciousness, so she doesn't date. On her way to work one day she has to stop and buy some stamps. John passes her on the street on his way to the Post Office, but she didn't see him because she was looking at her shoes and feeling bad for herself. As John is walking toward the Post Office he's thinking about how he wants to workout at the gym but he can't seem to get himself started. After all, "Everyone will notice me and make fun of me." the clerk is wearing a dress that no longer fits because she's lost 25 lbs. yet she can't bring herself to buy new clothes because of, "What people might think." She's lost in her thoughts and almost gives John the wrong change, which he hardly notices because he's thinking about the gym and the horror of everyone noticing him and pointing.

Neither Sally, John or Mary see anyone but themselves. None of them noticed the other even when they had an opportunity. Surprisingly none of us is the center of attention expect perhaps at your own wedding, and sometimes not even then. Therefore, stop being so self-centered and get yourself out doing what you want to do. Sure there are always people who will make a rude remark, but hey, they do not know you. They don't know your situation. They don't know anything about you and probably never will, and guess what? They don't really care, which is why they have fun being rude to strangers, so why should you?

Show care where you can make a difference. Show care when you are able to help someone without expecting something in return. Life is short. The days go by in an endless stream from one moment to the next and what you do with this life is entirely up to you. It's not always about food.

Planning For Debt Elimination Without Surplus Cash

Previously we looked at using surplus cash each month to chip away at those outstanding loans, on our long road to debt elimination. But what can you do if there is no surplus cash every month?

So, you have examined your monthly outgoings, and there is nothing to cut out in the way of expenditure. Or you can make some savings, but it just brings your outgoings and income into balance each month, whereas before your outgoings were in excess of the income. Well, at least you have made some progress by bringing income and expenditure into equilibrium. But where does that leave you in your debt elimination challenge? It is probably time to focus on those debts, and see what can be done to bring down the cost of those loans, and the monthly repayments.

Debt Elimination that Works: Remove All Your Debt, including Credit Cards and Mortgage in 3 to 5 yea...

It may still be possible to plan for debt elimination in 5 years, especially with your newly developed anti debt mindset.

Taking out another loan will not, of course, bring instant debt elimination. However, it may be that a debt consolidation loan will give you a chance to structure your plan over a 3, 5 or 7 year period. With the right approach, this may be an excellent opportunity to improve your finances no end, resulting in debt elimination at the end of the loan period. The key will be in whether you are able to reduce your total loan repayments, and whether you are then able to set aside those savings each month. Let us look at a simple example, of a consumer who has two credit cards and two other loans. He owes a total of $11300, and has a minimum monthly payment of $346. Let's say he is able to obtain a new consolidation loan at 10% annual interest, and would have repayments of $240 per month over 5 years, a saving of $106 per month, or $6360 over the 5 year period.

That is a significant amount to put away each month. Enough for a replacement second hand car? No need for any more loans? In which case, debt elimination, by our definition excluding the mortgage, could be achieved within that 5 year period.

There are, of course, millions of permutations of figures, so you will have to consider your own. But the principles are always the same. Living within your budget, planning ahead, and saving for any future purchases in cash. That's a simple formula.

All it needs to accomplish debt elimination is your new mindset; the mindset that does not want debt, borrowings, loans to be a part of your future life. The mindset that has patience in clearing the debt, and is able resist new purchases of optional items until the cash is available.

It is worth always remembering, if you cannot to afford to pay cash for something, then you cannot really afford it at all.

Some individuals also suffer from various types of drug allergies. Sulfa drugs, anesthesia and insulin also cause allergic reactions in a number of people.

It is very important to let anyone treating you know if you suffer from any type of drug allergy. Many people who suffer from drug reactions and allergies also find it beneficial to carry some kind of identifying information with them to denote the allergy in the event of an accident.

While no one reacts well to an inset sting or bite, in some people the situation can become life threatening.

These individuals usually begin to experience what is known as anaphylaxis when stung or bitten. Anaphylaxis is an extremely serious medical condition in which the airway becomes constricted and the person is at risk for dying if medical help is not sought immediately.

Other common symptoms related to impending anaphylaxis include swelling of the face and shock. Severe allergic reactions are usually associated with bites and stings from wasps, bees, hornets and yellow jackets.

Allergic reactions to latex are a problem that is not well known by many people but that can be extremely serious. Individuals can come into contact with latex in a number of ways and environments; both at home and at work. It is commonly found in many types of rubber as well as shoes, balloons, gloves, condoms and rubber bands.

The reaction related to latex exposure in a person with this type of allergy can range from mild to severe. As with all other allergic reactions, it can become life threatening if anaphylaxis occurs. Individuals who suffer from latex allergies develop it because they have been around and exposed to latex significantly at some point in their lives.

Considering that thousands of products contain latex, it may be difficult to pinpoint when and where this occurred. Some people develop the problem if they have frequent surgeries because of the fact that most surgical gloves are made from latex. If you suffer from a latex allergy it is imperative that you inform your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery.

Exposure to latex during a surgery can be quite serious, even life threatening. Alternate measures can be used if you inform the medical staff. You may also consider carrying some type of allergy identification in the case of an accident.

Individuals who have life threatening allergies, such as some food allergies and allergies related to insect stings and bites may be advised by their doctor to carry a special medical kit with them at all times. This kit usually contains an antidote known as epinephrine and is commonly used as an injectable. While the epinephrine will work as antidote, medical attention should still be sought immediately.

Dust mite allergies affect many people who do not even realize that the symptoms they experience are related to an allergy. Dust mites are small organisms that prefer to inhabit areas that are dark and warm. They are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Most homes have dust mites. The problem arises when someone is either allergic to dust mites or has asthma. Medical professionals recommend that you eliminate the warm and humid environments in your home where dust mites thrive. They are particularly fond of pillows, mattresses, carpet and upholstery. Eliminating these areas in your home as much as possible can help to reduce the dust mite population and the possibility of allergic reactions.

Hay fever is an extremely common allergy related ailment. In some individuals the symptoms, including sneezing and watery, itchy eyes, appear all year while other people only recognize the symptoms during certain seasons of the year. Most people who experience hay fever at isolated times of the year, such as the spring or fall, are actually allergic to pollen.

Persons who have problems with hay fever all year are more than likely allergic to something inside their home. This might include dust mites as mentioned above or pet dander. There are a number of over the counter and prescription medications that can help reduce the symptoms of both seasonal and year round hay fever.

A small number of people are allergic to mold and the symptoms can be quite distressful. Black mold is a situation that has recently come to light and the results of being exposed to black mold have proven to be quite severe.

While not all molds are black, if you suspect that your home or office has mold of any type, it is well worth it to have a trained professional investigate the situation. Reducing the humidity in your home or office is an affective way of controlling all kinds of mold, as well as using a disinfectant regularly and keeping the air circulating.

Nancy was doing very well until about two years ago when Phil, her boyfriend of 9 years, broke-up with her. It was a difficult moment for her especially after she learned that Phil eventually married her cousin. Since then, Nancy had deteriorated. One evening, she was involved in a motor vehicular accident because she was driving fast and recklessly in a quiet suburban neighborhood.

The Focused Interviewing System of Interview and Interrogation

During interrogation, the cops noted that Nancy was talking rapidly and nobody could interrupt her. Also, she was making jokes and laughing so loud. She further indicated to them that she was on her way to meet the President and his top officials about her invention that could cure the oil crunch. She eventually ended up in the emergency room where she was diagnosed and treated for bipolar disorder after intensive evaluation.

Bipolar disorder or manic-depression is manifested by highs and lows. When a patient like Nancy is on the manic side, there is a persistent feeling of euphoria or irritability associated with lack of need for sleep, excessive energy, agitation, fast and loud speech, increase in goal-directed activities such as spending sprees and establishing businesses with no appropriate plan, and hypersexuality.

Patients with this disorder develop poor judgment and impulsivity. They become irritable and can lash out easily even if not provoked. Some patients have delusions of grandeur. When this happens, patients think that they have special powers, talents, and influence.

When not manic, patients either feel normal or depressed. Depression in bipolar disorder has the same manifestation as major depression that consists of feelings of sadness associated with neurovegetative signs and symptoms such as inability to sleep, eat, and concentrate. Energy level is also impaired. In addition, patients experience a feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness, and helplessness. Suicidal ideation may ensue.

For individuals who develop mania, does it always mean that they suffer from bipolar disorder?

Not necessarily. Mania can be caused by various medical and neurologic conditions. For instance, multiple sclerosis and stroke can present with manic symptoms. Moreover, medications and street drugs may precipitate mania. Steroids, cocaine, and amphetamine are some examples. Even some antidepressants can induce mania.

So when a person shows mania, the physician usually does intensive evaluation to rule out medical, neurologic, and medication-induced conditions before diagnosing bipolar disorder. This process is important because the treatment varies depending upon the cause. Once other conditions are ruled out, then bipolar disorder can be safely diagnosed and treated.

Do they fold when you bet big all of the time. Were they bluffing from the flop, but got lucky on the river or turn? It is rare that they will pay off however. So when you do bet, and bluff, you will be taking more seriously. Learning this secret has enabled my poker wins to jump, even when some people don't bet against me. Remember the price of something goes up if its rare, if you bet rarely, it will be weighted more.

The best thing about Glendale is it's location. It's less than a ten (10) minute drive on Los Feliz Blvd. to Hollywood and on the way there is the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park and the Griffith Observatory And Planetarium. Take a ten (10) minute drive east on the 134 freeway or on Colorado Blvd. and you will find yourself in Old Town Pasadena after having driven past the Rose Bowl and the Norton Simon Museum. Ten minutes to the south you will find yourself in downtown Los Angeles after having gone past Dodger Stadium. Go west on the 134 freeway and you have the entire San Fernando Valley (Universal Studios is also less than ten (10) minutes from Glendale.). Additionaly there is an Amtrak train station in Glendale. Parking is only a few yards from where you board the train, the station is never crowded and you can travel down the coast to the Mexican border or up the coast past San Francisco.

Of course you could just stay in Pasadena, Hollywood, Universal City or downtown Los Angeles but, you will find Glendale to be much less expensive and quieter with less traffic and fewer parking problems.

By the way, if you are into shopping, this city is the home of the Glendale Galleria, one of the largest and best shopping malls in southern California.

After more than thirty years of studying the Bible I can say with full assurance that Jesus Christ never contradicted himself. There is one instance where it would seem that he did but after careful examination I found that rather than a contradiction it ends up being more of an enigma.

In Matthew 24:35 Jesus said...Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away. The Bible has lasted through every kind of onslaught that has ever been thrown at it through the centuries. It still causes debate and resistance among some, and conversion and new found life for millions of others. Be it yea or nay it won't go away. In a contrasting statement Jesus said something that almost seems diametrically opposite to what he uttered in Matthew 24:35. In Mark 7:13 Jesus said...Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. Hold the phone! You mean the entire world and its doubts and resistance can't remove or lessen the word of God but tradition can? Yes, and it is the only thing according to scripture that can so effectively do this.

Some traditions are quaint and some are innocuous but when it comes to religious traditions this is not the case. Religion is stifled and beaten to the point of impotence by tradition. It is what makes true the saying that the seven last words of a dying, gasping, pointless and apostate church will be...We have always done it that way.

How has Catholicism found seven sacraments in a Bible that gives to us only two outward ceremonial ordinances, which are, water baptism and the communion? How has one protestant church added foot washing as a tradition and even elevated that to a sacrament? How have countless liturgies, ceremonies, ordinances and practices crept into Christianity over the centuries? The answer is tradition as usual. It is the traditions of the fathers or patristic teachings, the ceremonies of the celebrated like our pastors, preachers bishops and yes, the Pope. These have added to the overshadowing construct of outward and often meaningless practices in our churches. This construct is now so heavily layered that it is obscuring the simple but profound life giving qualities of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. It indeed has succeeded in many churches to make the word of God of no effect.

Odd as it may sound it seems that most people expect tradition and religion to be connected together at the hip. The Bible does not agree with this assumption. In fact the word...religion, is used only five times in the entirety of the Bible. And only once is it used to define what religion is. That definition doesn't look anything like what our religious practices have become. James said...Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27

Religious traditions have an assuring quality that the human psyche can't very well resist. It assuages us to see the cathedral long standing, and its ministers appropriately garbed in robes and vestments. It gives us the idea that they must be professionals if nothing else, the proof is apparent in the trappings and all the blaring visuals. But Christ never prescribed any sort of adornment for us or our churches. And the idea that Christian traditions or any other religious traditions are firmly established by their longevity is a mindless absurdity. Crimes, war, disasters, floods, famines, disease, are all as old as man but none of these are given any traditional significance. These things are never memorialized, missalized, or traditionalized. That some religious traditions are ancient serves only to point out mans persistence in idolatry and the practice of the mundane.

Some say they love the ceremonies and the liturgies of the church. Perhaps they do, but it behooves anyone to scrutinize the reasons for such a love. Is it practical, does it lead to the salvation of others? Or is it a place to hide, a place to get a dose of something much like the tiny dose of a disease that is contained in an inoculation. Isn't this little dose all that keeps us from getting the real thing? If God is the real thing, then don't we need more than a little dose?

Can people who are connected to churches that are heavily dependent on traditions be saved? Of course they can because their faith, although not often bolstered by these traditions, cannot be destroyed by them either. It will be true for millions of people in the end that they were not saved by their religion, but in spite of it. Thank God for the grace of God.

Recently, I told a friend (who's a business owner) that she needed to write a book. Although she's a good writer with terrific ideas, she said, "Do I really have to do it?"

For her -- and for those of you who have a business -- the answer is yes. Here's why:

1. Additional revenue. I don't just mean revenue from book sales, although that can sometimes be substantial. I'm also thinking of speaking engagements. Speaking engagements can be very lucrative, and a book gives you great material for speeches!

No. But I am such a big proponent of the ideas in the book that I want to share them (thanks by the way to Jeff Bolton, who originally got me excited about the book). The word-of-mouth from many people leads to referrals and sales of products and services for Michael Gerber (he has a hugely successful organization).

4. Publicity opportunities. Wouldn't I be remiss if I didn't say this? When choosing between someone who has written a book and someone who hasn't, the vast majority of media people will prefer to use the author as a source. Why? Again, because this person has obviously gone the extra mile, putting in the time and effort to put his or her expertise out there, and gotten a book published.

Then, slice the pineapple crosswise and remove the fibrous core individually with a cookie cutter.

Once the fruit is prepared, it can be diced and eaten fresh, added to salads and entrees for an exotic flavor, or made into tasty tropical drinks and smoothies.

Have you noticed? There is a lot of publicity these days about working from home - increasing numbers of people are dreaming of leaving the rat race; TV programmes are made showing families leaving the city and moving to a rural retreat; and more and more employers are offering their staff the opportunity to work at least part of their working week from home. Even security of employment is no longer assured. Then add to this the explosion of Internet businesses that can be worked from home. No wonder for some people the temptation to jump straight in and 'do their own thing' from home is irresistible.

But what are the problems or drawbacks that have to be considered before making this decision? And what are the rewards and benefits that can be gained?

The plus points of course are well documented: no daily commute, no having to dress for the office, no difficult bosses, more time with the family.

From my own point of view, because of a health problem, I could no longer go out to work so the decision was made for me. But I had to think long and hard about how to make it work, and to find ways to overcome the problems I would encounter. So, what are these problems?

there is no longer the security of a pay cheque at the end of every month: if you don't work, you don't earn any money;
the necessity of having a separate office space - could you manage with the kids dropping ice-cream on your paperwork, for instance?
the distractions of household chores during your work time: I'll just get that pot of soup made now while I wait for that document to print out!
the distractions of not working: phone calls to friends, reading the newspaper, just going to get another biscuit, or even going back to bed!
knowing when to stop working: or you could just become a bore;
isolation: no colleagues to bounce ideas off, or gossip with;
and having to provide your own pension and insurance; sorting out your taxes; and keeping accounts.

In addition to getting to grips with all this, then think about what type of person you are. Do you have the qualities to succeed? It's all very well knowing the theory, but it's putting it into practice that counts. You need patience and perseverance, self-discipline and a positive attitude. You also need to be able to knock procrastination on the head and understand time management. You must be willing to learn and adapt.

Okay superwoman, or superman, it seems an awful lot to take on board, and how each of you copes with these problems will be different. But the more you can get to grips with it, then there's more of a chance you'll be able to enjoy the benefits of working from home.

Last week I was having a quick browse on eBay when something caught my eye. "Black patient shoes!" screamed the headline. "Must see!"

"Wow!" I thought. "Patient shoes! What are they when they're at home?" I clicked on the link. The shoes appeared. Black they certainly were. But &patient'? No. Or not as far as I could see, anyway. These, you see, were patent shoes - as in &patent leather'. And very nice they were too - just what I was looking for, and in my size. Did I buy them though? Not on your life. I didn't buy the "gorgeous sequence dress" I found a few minutes later, either. (Answers on a postcard if you can guess what a "sequence" dress is...)

My reasoning was simple. If the sellers of these items couldn't be bothered to take the time and care to make sure they'd got the name of the product right, and spelt it correctly, then how on earth could I trust them with the more complex matter of accepting my payment and sending out my patient shoes? The answer:

Creating Money - Spells, Rituals, Prayers, Affirmations, Herbs, Gems, Lunar Magic, Saints, Angels, ...

I couldn't. The sloppy spelling had created the impression of a sloppy seller. It had also lost them a customer.

So it is with business. You may think that a couple of spelling mistakes in an email or report don't matter. They do. Just ask all of the prospective job candidates whose applications didn't make it out of the slush pile because their covering letter was littered with typos. They don't get an interview because they've already made themselves look careless; if your website is a mess of bad grammar and spelling, then it doesn't matter how great your product or service is - you already look unprofessional. And if your marketing literature is littered with mistakes- forget it!

Whether you're a large-scale business or a small-time seller, proofreading is something you really can't afford to skimp on. It's also something you shouldn't try to do yourself. As any professional writer will tell you, when you work on a piece of writing you become blind to its faults. No matter how carefully you re-read it, you see what you think is there. That's probably why last year a well known news website confidently predicted that John Kerry would "knot" win the US election. And why my accountant keeps writing to me about "teh business."

If you're serious about your professional image, get someone else to proofread your brochures, website, letters and adverts. And steer clear of patient shoes...

Tip: Whenever possible, use real people and real photos in the "About Us" page. Real photos always win hands down compared to aloof and perfect models. It doesn't matter if you don't look like a model. You just need to look like you.

  shrimp,  �½ cup of milk,  1 egg,  �½ cup of cracker or bread crumbs,  1 pound of crab meat,  1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce,  1 teaspoon of hot sauce,  1 teaspoon of dried mustard,  1 teaspoon of miracle whip,  2 cubed slices of bread,  1 small onion chopped,  �½ cup of green bell pepper, and  �½ cup of melted butter or margarine.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the shrimp as you did in the recipe above in the butterfly style leaving the tails attached. Stir together the egg and milk. Mix together the crabmeat, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, mustard, mayo, bread cubes, salt and pepper. Saut�½ the onions and green pepper in a small amount of butter, and then add to the crab mixture. Now, dip the shrimp into the egg mixture and place in a baking dish. Top each shrimp with the crab mixture and bake for 40 minutes.

One of the slickest tricks we know is baking bread on the grill. Once you get to know your grill, it's easy-like baking your favorite recipe in the oven.

We can think of all kinds of reasons to use the grill. You can enjoy fresh baked bread while camping, or at the cabin, or at the next family reunion. Sometimes, it's just nice to get out of the kitchen, enjoy the spring air, and bake outside. (Watch the neighbors turn their noses upwind when the smell of fresh baked bread wafts over the fence.) And in the summertime, you don't have to heat up the kitchen to bake. Finally, if there is ever an extended emergency when the power is off, you may have the only fresh bread in town.

You can bake nearly anything with a covered grill. (If your grill doesn't have a cover, improvise with a large inverted pot.) The heat rises and circulates in the covered area just as it does in your oven. The heat source can be charcoal, gas, or even wood. We prefer gas because it is easier to control and does not impart a smoked taste to the bread. Since it is hottest near the flames, elevate the bread even if you have to improvise. In our grill, there is a secondary shelf for baking potatoes and such.

For this demonstration, we used Old-Fashioned White Bread mixes though any mix or recipe will do. We mixed according to package directions. After it had risen, we formed one batch into oval country loaves, one into hamburger buns, and another into dinner rolls.

The trick to grilling bread perfectly is controlling temperature and time. If your grill comes equipped with a thermometer, you've got it made (though outside temperatures and winds may impact how well your grill retains heat). If you have a thermometer, just heat to the temperature designated on the package or in the recipe. If not, guess. After a few loaves you'll have it perfect and we bet that the first batch off the grill will be just fine.

Rolls and buns will probably bake in 15 to 20 minutes and loaves will take 20 to 30 minutes depending on size and temperature. An occasional peek to see how your bread is doing as it nears completion is okay.

We made twelve giant-sized hamburger buns, just the ticket for that quarter-pounder. Form the buns as you would dinner rolls then press them flat several times until they look like those in the picture to the left. (The dusting that you can see on the pan is cornmeal.) Cover and let rise.

Just before baking, we washed the buns with an egg white wash (one egg white plus one tablespoon of water). We then sprinkled them with sesame seeds. On our grill, we baked them with the heat turned about two-thirds open for about 18 minutes.

For the dinner rolls, we used a 8 1/2 x 15-inch pan and made 20 rolls scaled at 2.5 ounces each.

We made two country style loaves from one mix. If you look closely you'll see that we forgot to slash the tops to release the steam and consequently ended up with a split on the side of the loaf. Don't do as we did-score two or three quarter-inch deep slashes on the top of the loaf just as you begin baking.

Here are a few more hints to help you along the way:

�€� Bake the bread before the burgers. The bread can cool while you cook the rest of the food. Burning grease in the bottom of the grill makes the temperature harder to control and the soot can stain the bread.

�€� If you are letting your bread rise outside where the temperature may be less than indoors or where breezes may swirl around the bread, consider using a large food-grade plastic bag as a greenhouse. Simply slip the bread dough--pan and all--inside the bag, inflate it slightly, and close it. If the day is cool, set the bag and the bread in a sunny warm place to capture a little solar energy.

�€� Grills tend to not circulate the hot air as well as ovens. To keep the bottom of the bread from burning, place one pan beneath the other and a wire rack between the pans to create space for insulation.

�€� If your bread is baking faster on one side than the other, turn the pan 180 degrees part way through the baking time.

�€� The tendency is to burn the bottom of the bread. Place the bread as far away from the flames as you can even if it means elevating the bread.

Working on my first humorous novel, I started with a single character. I followed suggestions in writers' reference books for developing story characters. Then, still dissatisfied with my results, I began to explore other ways to make my characters more lifelike and included those strategies below.

1552-->1. Find your character's astrological sign and its corresponding description. How closely does that description match your character and his or her ways and tendencies?

2. Look in joke books for short anecdotes/short stories. Do any of the people in those anecdotes match or help to clarify your character(s) or ideas? Can you expand the character's problem(s) and action(s)?

3. Discover ways in which your character matches (or doesn't) a given stereotype. For example, are attractive women always thin and blond?

Are sheriffs and police always honest? Are politicians always corrupt and self-serving? How does your character go against the grain and how does that tendency help or hinder his or her efforts in solving a problem?

What gets a given character into the most trouble in the first place, his/her "old" or "new" occupation? How does the character set himself or herself up?

5. Has your character resolved to change his or her ways as a result of surviving an accident, catastrophe, ruinous divorce or love affair? Does your character take a turn for the worse, and if so, why or why not?

6. In what way or ways does your character resemble his or her pet or friend or sibling? How do those things enhance or complicate his or her problems in your story?

But maybe you have a reason not to neuter your cat. In that case try to find out why your cat sprays.

Maybe it sprays only when it sees another cat. Solution: block the view. Or it sprays because of a conflict with another pet. Keep them separated and problems might be over.

If you don't know why your cat sprays, discuss it with your veterinarian. Chances are he will advice you to spay or neuter. But your vet can also check if there is a medical problem.

Anyway, do not leave this problem unsolved. Cat urine odor and stains can make your home a very uncomfortable place, and your cat will still remain a cat even when it doesn't spray anymore.

Marie, a book could be written on each of your questions, but the last question sounds like the one you are really asking. What do you mean by salvage?

Do you mean the cake just fell on the floor and the guests are arriving. Can we patch it together and serve it from the kitchen so no one notices what happened? Or do you mean, after an affair, can you have the kind of marriage you would wish for your son or daughter?

Marriage is a relationship different from all others. You can date many people, you can be friends with many people, you can be neighbors to many people. But the act of getting married says I choose this one unique being to share everything with me for the rest of my life.

The basis for willingly binding yourself to one person is love. Their fidelity allows you to believe in their love. Their fidelity allows you to sustain your love. But if that person is unfaithful then they, not you, have brought their love into question. Infidelity validates your doubts about their love.

The idea of fidelity is in the marital vows because it is essential. Fidelity is the one thing promised in virtually every religious tradition and understood worldwide. Why? Because breaking faith breaks the marriage.

It is possible to forgive betrayal, but in our experience it is not possible to forget it. That would be like forgetting you have kids. It isn't going to happen. The unfaithful person would like the other person to forget, and the one betrayed would like to forget, but barring amnesia they cannot.

How do you believe "I love you" after you have been betrayed? That is what people ask us years and even decades afterwards.

When people go to purchase a treadmill, one of the first questions they ask is "Do I want a manual or motorized treadmill?"

What's the difference between the two?

The Basic Difference:

With a manual (or non-motorized) treadmill, you push the belt with your feet. The action of your feet against the treadmill moves the belt.

With a motorized treadmill you keep pace as the treadmill motor moves the belt for you at a pace you set electronically.

Advantages & Disadvantages:

Manual treadmills:

Tend to be cheaper (since you're not paying for the motor) and can range from $200 to $600.

They also tend to be smaller, take up less space and are easier to move (since they aren't as heavy as a motorized treadmill).

It's also difficult to run on a manual treadmill so if you want to start a jogging program or train as a runner, a manual treadmill would not meet your needs.

Motorized treadmills:

Tend to be more expensive and can range from $800 up to $8000. However, they tend to last longer and are built to take more of a beating.

Also, because the belt moves for you at varying speeds, this motivates you to keep up and actually results in more calories burned (vs. a manual treadmill).

You can easily adjust the speed and incline on most motorized treadmills, usually while still on the machine. This makes it much more convenient and saves the strain on your joints.

A final advantage to the motorized treadmills is that they tend to have more options and features (iFit compatibility, numerous built-in workout programs, scrolling information consoles). This makes your workout more interesting and possibly even enjoyable as you can watch your progress.

This means that you will probably USE the treadmill more often which again results in more calories burned and a better body achieved.

The Final Conclusion:

Unless you're in extremely good physical shape, a manual treadmill is not recommended. Choose a motorized treadmill for maximum calorie burning and exercise convenience.

However, scientific nutritional research has identified that something much more serious - much more dangerous - is often at work here. For many people, what

Understanding this complex problem begins with understanding the word addiction. When applying this rather grave concept to eating, it becomes starkly clear that choosing an extra slice of pizza or bar of chocolate may be the expression of a very serious addiction to unhealthy food.

Remarkably, unlike how addictions to things like alcohol, drugs, and sexual activity viewed biological and psychological illnesses, addiction to eating is often ignored or, at the very least, diminished to be something that is based on willpower. The insulting advice of "just don't eat it if you don't want to get fat!" that some obese people actually hear from their doctors, relatives, or colleagues is one of the most common manifestations of this often well-meaning, but potentially harmful, ignorance.

The bottom line fact - and one that more medical professionals are accepting based on scientific evidence - is that obesity and related eating disorders are often the results of an addiction they are a serious health condition that must be approached methodologically like other diseases[iv].

Understanding that food addiction is indeed a problem - a severe disease, in fact - is a fundamental key in addressing this unique health challenge. At the same time, the notion of "willpower" should be removed, in most cases, from the eating disorder vocabulary, and replaced with the word "addiction".

This will make that extra piece of pizza or that third slice of chocolate cake be seen for what they often are: the means to satisfy a bonafide addiction.

Once the "eating disorder as an addiction" paradigm is in place, then and only then can both unhealthy eaters and those supporting them take steps to solve the problem. Sometimes the hardest part to trying something new is the first step. Here are nine inspired steps to help you start living a creative way of life:

1. Be willing to try something new.

When was the last time you stepped out of your everyday routine and did something totally different? Taking a dance class, going to a concert to experience something different than what you normally listen to on the radio, or even picking up a pencil and sketching the trees in your own backyard is creative action. Creative thinking and creative action start with a new decision about how you're going to spend your time.

2. Create something with your own hands on a regular basis.

There are plenty of opportunities to express your creative side. Even mundane tasks like setting the table allow you to try something new. Regular maintenance can keep your car up and running for years. One of the most important things you can do is be aware of the type of oil in your vehicle. Periodically check the oil level in the engine and make sure there is enough. If you do nothing else this will increase the longevity and life of your car.

Change your oil frequently. You will not damage your engine by changing it too often. The norm is usually every 3,000 miles. You will also want to change your oil filter and air filter when you do your oil change. Again your owner's manual will let you know of the proper time to have this done.

On older cars changing the oil yourself may not be difficult, however with newer cars the way the engine is built could cause problems. Not to

worry though, if you do not feel comfortable changing your own oil there are plenty of inexpensive oil change service stations out there that can do the job for you. Most of the time at these places you will only have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for the oil to be changed and then your vehicle will be good for another 3,000 miles.

Another thing you can do is to pay attention to your tires and take care of them immediately if you see an issue developing. A lot of drivers do not pay attention to the tread and condition of their tires until it is too late. Most people only repair their tires as needed or worse yet after a blowout. This is not only dangerous to you but can leave you stranded. You can lose control of the car and may cause other damages to the vehicle itself or hurt yourself and others.

If an accident does not occur you could still end up with a problem, such as a flat tire, if you are not properly maintaining your tires. If you do get a flat tire you now have to waste your time changing your tire, getting dirty and placing yourself at risk by being close to cars that will be passing by you at high speeds. By purchasing a pressure gauge and using it you can keep the tires inflated to their proper pressure. You should also have your tire properly balanced and rotated to avoid problems and increase their life.

Checking your car's fluids to make sure they are properly filled can also help you maintain your car and keep it dependable. You should do this when you do your oil changes or based on the recommendations of your owner's manual. The fluids to check are the power steering fluid, break fluid, antifreeze and windshield washer fluid. You will also need to do a quick visual inspection of the hoses and belts in your vehicle. This is easy to do and if you get your oil changed professionally they will often do this free of charge.

Once something does fail mechanically, get it fixed fast! Do not wait, more problems could occur based on neglect. When you rely on a car, as much as most people do, it is important to keep it in the best condition possible. Remember that it is always cheaper to prevent the problems then to fix them.

Once the confines are actualized, a company, to continue growing, must expand their product's capabilities by reaching into another industry to consolidate/converge additional functionality.

The second factor is software to software interconnectivity. Interconnectivity makes it so simple to converge products from one software industry to the next, it encourages consolidation. Open systems, service oriented architectures, programming interfaces and programming languages were created to facilitate the interconnection of diverse software products, making the process of expanding growth-promising functionality by consolidating products relatively simple.

The third factor: high-margin products and receptive investors, makes other industries envious of software. Margins often create huge war chests, and aggressive investors can create bank vaults that offer ready financing for acquisition-led consolidation strategies that promise opportunities for growth. Consolidation, though, is not always accomplished via acquisition. New capabilities can be built internally. The problem with this approach is that most companies find building paths into new industries difficult. It does require research, resources and focused execution. It also takes time. Many companies, failing to embrace that software lifecycles are time-compressed by intense competition and advances in technology, are caught off-guard by how quickly their industry becomes saturated.

Then there is the problem of competition for internal resources. Software companies are faced with non-stop feedback from demanding customers that have an unquenchable thirst for simplifying the complexities of information technology. And all of us know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. This variety of challenges leaves companies without sufficient time to "build" a path, making the buy option very attractive. Buying though, is attractive in its own right because it delivers instant gratification and one-upmanship. Of course, well-heeled competitors in an effort to close the competitive gap can take the similarly expeditious buy route and the process of industry consolidation is now on a fast track.

Natural evolution, interconnectivity, available financing, and customer and competitive pressures have been fueling software consolidation for decades and there is no end in sight. Its an ongoing scenario of kill or be killed. Software companies that don't keep a current strategy for consolidating or being consolidated face extinction.

The machination of consolidation in the software industries plays out like an ongoing game of little fish, big fish. And somewhere there's always a hungrier bigger fish (or one that wants to be bigger), who is a looming consolidator. As an industry competitor in the ongoing game of consolidation there are four possible roles that can be played: consolidatee or little fish, consolidator or big fish, niche player or puffer fish (a fish with limited appeal), and odd-man out or the floating dead fish. Companies responsibly playing any of the first three

roles will select viable competitive positions for their respective roles; the fourth, and the most commonly played role of the dead fish does not.

The selection, though, of a viable competitive position is not a solitary event; it is something that has to be continuously updated as an industry progresses through its lifecycle. This is because both the nature of an industry and the practicality of any competitive position are continually changing. In the introductory phase of an industry's lifecycle there could be a thousand viable positions. By the time the mature phase rolls around, (1) the number of viable positions will be amalgamated into a few based on superior functionality, price or markets served, and (2) an industry once focused on solving problem X is now resolving A through X.

This implies that the path from the introductory to the mature phase will be strewn with carnage, but there will also be some long-term healthy niche survivors and some big winners. The prospects for being victorious will be greatly improved with an understanding of the relationships between lifecycle phases, competitive positioning and consolidation.

An industry's introductory phase. In the introductory phase, an industry's early entrants lead a life of competitive luxury. Competitors are few and far between, small in size and often unsophisticated business-wise. The customers are the early-adopter types who have few expectations beyond some rudimentary solution. This leads to a situation where there can be many probable (a subset of possible) competitive positions satisfying niche needs, most of which are too small to represent viable business models. The various positions in the introductory phase may be more or less "equal" at this point, but this equality does not pertain to future value. Some positions will be:

(1) more appealing to consolidatees because they cater to the likely interests of future consolidators;

(2) better for building a path of continuous growth that could lead to a superior exit opportunity or a dominant competitive position and to assuming the role of a future consolidator; or

(3) superior for building a lasting profitable niche position.

In order to understand which competitive positions are best suited to achieving any one of these three outcomes, it's necessary to identify who the future consolidators are likely to be along with their probable motivations. The future consolidators (FC) will come from two sources: (1) current and (2) prospective competitors (PCs).

Deciding which of the current competitors are candidates for FCs may not be easy because the companies in the introductory phase are often small with limited budgets and resources. However, those companies who are led by industry experienced managers with vision, who have gained early market and technology leadership, and who have sufficient access to funds are reasonable bets. The PCs, on the other hand, may be easier to spot. They're established companies who view participating in this industry as strategically sensible, under one condition-the goodness of the industry's opportunity must be validated. Until validation occurs PCs sit on the sidelines actively or passively tracking an industry's prospects.

Once the future consolidators have been identified, the next step is to decide which positions these companies are likely to stake out. Once this has been thoughtfully estimated in a process that requires analyzing each FC's possible or known product and market strategies, the information is available for the current competitors to plan the positions of their products to be an attractive consolidatee, a durable niche player targeting a position the consolidators will probably shun, or a future consolidator who now has a fair idea of how to build a defensible position.

An industry's early growth phase. In the early growth phase life takes on a decidedly different flavor. With the industry past its validation phase, the smell of money brings competitors out of the woodwork.

One of the most formidable groups are the prospective competitors, many who are now prepared to shed their prospective qualifier and make a grand entrance by acquiring a suitable competitor. PCs often have complementary products, deep pockets, big customer bases, established channels, professional service organizations, and recognized brands. Armed with these advantages, these latecomers will substantively raise the competitive bar. This process of elevating the threshold may lead to redefining the industry and will redefine what constitutes a viable competitive position (See Figure 2), and it will alter the profile of the target customer. Gone are the days when customers were few in number and happy to pay a premium for a little piece of desirable functionality. Instead, customers are increasingly numerous, and demanding more functionality. All of the changes lay the groundwork for the first wave of consolidation.

All competitors, at this point, must re-evaluate the viability and strength of their current competitive positions relative to all other competitors, including any still looming PCs, in order to assess the goodness of their situation within the modified population of role-appropriate viable competitive positions. This updated appraisal should be used to strengthen or revise a competitor's competitive position relative to their designated role. This is achieved by reinforcing the company's product strategy on some element of functionality or price, and/or fortifying or augmenting markets served

Shakeout - the later growth phase. During the latter part of the growth phase competition for the growing number of increasingly demanding customers can become so intense that no one's making money. This ignites a survival of the fittest shakeout, where the competitive bar is raised still higher. The fittest will have the strongest competitive positions on functionality and/or price and/or markets served. They'll also have the financial resources to defend their positions against competitors aggressively pricing products without regard to cost, and interlopers with crafty marketing messages and costly campaigns that dupe customer into thinking that they have the superior position.

Consolidators are now working in overdrive to secure their place as a competitor with a dominant industry position. This means that consolidatees must be working overtime to see the fruition of their objective to be consolidated. Failure to do so could turn a little fish into a floating dead fish, because the consolidatee's solution is now priced uncompetitively and/or available as a feature of a product holding a functionally superior position.

To the survivors, go the riches. Companies that survive the shakeout will hold clearly different positions (See Figure 3), that offer a promise for profitability, and they will enjoy a respite in ruthless price competition and costly hand-to-hand combat for customers. This though should not be viewed as an invitation to become complacent for two consequential reasons. First, the survivors, in anticipation of the inevitable flattening of growth that accompanies an industry's mature phase, will need to be working diligently to determine the company's next new product/industry in order to ensure continued growth. Second, survivors must support their positions against onlookers looking for openings that arise from arrogance or apathy and the actions of other survivors who will soon become frustrated by the leveling of growth and view one final round of consolidation as a means to buy revenue. Beware. Consolidation in this case is not a strategy for sustaining growth. You can consolidate mature A and B, but in the end you have mature AB, because the size of the world is constant. You can ask HP's former CEO, Carly Fiorina, about the limits of consolidation as a growth strategy.

Conclusion. Only companies that can continually stake-out and restake-out competitive positions that are valued by the inevitable consolidators, or create and reinforce the position of consolidator, or target profitable niche markets will survive. You can't avoid the underlying theme of consolidation that is constantly at work as software executives aggressively endeavor to execute strategies to secure an ongoing healthy existence, best the competition and deliver growth that will endear them to their shareholders.

forgotten to pick the kids up from soccer practice, or lost a sticky note with an important phone number on it, this is your year to get organized. There is no better time than now to recommit ourselves to bringing some order to the chaos that is our modern lives.

Admitting that your memory is not as good as you think it is is the first step down the road that will eventually lead to a more organized, more productive you. Below is a discussion of a few of the Do and Do Nots of personal organization - they are tried and tested, so do yourself a favor and trust me on the Do Nots. Try all of the Dos until you find the best system that works for you, then stick with it.

Do NOT write things on your hands.

This system may have worked well in high school when you had a relatively blank calendar of events to remember. However, in the adult world you will lose a lot of respect if you have phone numbers tattooed all over the back of your hand.

Do write it down. The best way to remember something is to write it down precisely so that you will not have to remember it. You can write that meeting time and place down on a blank calendar, record a phone number straight into your phone or rolodex, or keep a notebook where you record all of your assignments and tasks. The most important thing to remember when trying to get your life organized is to write it down!

Do NOT rely too heavily on sticky notes. Despite the modern technological innovations that gave us mobile phones, hand-held computers, and high-speed internet, science has still failed to provide us with sticky notes that actually stick. Besides, they are too easily lost and tend to clutter up workspace. They are great for taking temporary notes from phone calls or quick conversations, but any important information should be transferred to your blank calendar or planner.

Do find a system that works for you. There are plenty of options out there for people looking for an organizational system to help them get control of their lives. Because I spend the majority of my time in my office, I find that simply printing a blank calendar that I can keep close by works well. Others use traditional day planners or PDAs to keep track of appointments and to-do lists. Software is available that enables

you to keep track of everything on your computer - something that is especially handy for students or professionals who have a lot to keep track of and who have to spend their time constantly on the go. If you try one system and it does not seem to work for you, try another option until you find one that does.

Do NOT expect others to keep track of your schedule for you. At the end of the day, you are responsible for what you did and did not get done. Take responsibility for the time you have and get the most out of it. Watch others who seem to be good at staying organized and try to do what they do. Take the initiative to follow the guidelines in this article and get organized.

Do make getting organized a priority. It is not easy, but it is definitely worth it. Most people are already so busy that they barely have time to eat during the day. Ironically, spending more time organizing and thinking about your day will save time in the end. And natural laws of entropy dictate that you are going to have to put in a little energy to bring order to your days. With so many other things demanding your attention, making your calendar a priority will mean it actually gets done, rather than just another unchecked item on your daily to-do list.

Do NOT give up. Getting organized is a habit, and like any other good habit it is going to take time to become a permanent part of your life. You may do great one week and completely lose it the next. Just regroup and recommit yourself each Monday morning to take your calendar by the reins and make the most of each day. We all have 24 hours each day to do all that is required of us - getting organized will determine in large part how much we are able to get done each day.
